so it turns out I'm as good as a bum compared to most people here. I have a grand total of 75k, no ectos or chards, a few dyes (2-3 of each) and a tatoo set from granite citadell. my most expensive item as of now if probably a HoD sword that I was smart enough to keep for my monk.
Location: If it aint expensive, it aint worth buyin'.
Guild: Leading/Co-leading Bretheren Of Chaos [Dark]
Profession: W/Mo

1250 ectos is pretty badass, yeah. but mind you guys, all ectos and shards will become worthless once chapter 2 is out. new items, armors, crafting materials and such, characters, etc - all this will create such massive price fluctuations that most items we know to be expensive now are likely to drop in value tremendously. this being the case, the only stable in-game currenly in my opinion will remain cold hard gold.

I have heard the new armors will be cheaper than fow armor. So fow armor will remain the most "elite" armor.

what i dont get is, with the uses off rubys and sapphires and monstrous things we will get in chapter 2, who said ectos wont be used again?:S maybe the armor, what will cost you a few shining stones, will also cost you some globs to make.

agreed, thats why Im only saving gold until chapter 2 300k+ so far .....sigh...such a long way still to go
let's not forget how GW economy works and think logically for a minute.
all prices fluctuate dynamically based on real time supply and demand. high supply, low demand > low price. low supply, high demand > high price. so what do you guys thing is going to happen when Chapter 2 is deployed? people will want to try out new armors that will almost certainly NOT require ectos to craft. having said that, demand will drop down like Apple's stock once Windows Vista is released (yes, I am a Windows user and I hate macs ). This will result in tremendous price decrease of ectos. people who have stacks of them will lose huge amounts of money.
other materials that have had no use in Chapter 1, on the other hand, will become a lot more expensive since they will be needed to craft armors and weapons in the new chapter.
now, seeing as that most people fail to realize what I have said above, we're gonna see a shitstorm of threads where people will whine and rant on about how they've been ripped off and threatening to quit GW unless ANet does something about it.
This will result in tremendous price decrease of ectos. people who have stacks of them will lose huge amounts of money.
Or everyone rushes to get assassin and ritualist fow armor driving the prices higher. And its all very well saying gold is the only safe bet but there are alot of people with maxed out accounts. Anet will not allow ecto to dramatically drop as ecto are the primary material in any 100k+ trade. They would not let such a thing happen as if it did many of the wealthy people who have loads of ecto will leave. And anyway fow armor is seen as the most elite armor and therefore will always be popular with the guild wars elite unless they introcude similar "elite" armor in chapter 2 which i have heard wont happen.

how can you be so sure that there will be FoW armor for assassin and ritualist?

tough shit, they say.

nor will ANet allow the prices to increase, like you suggested. as soon as Chapter 2 is released there will be a large inflow of new players. it is unwise strategically for ANet to let prices rocket up because that will displease many new players and result in less profit over long term. rule of marketing

players made it so. and it may/will as well change over time.

woop-dee-doo. rich bastards are a minority, thus ANet will NOT do what would benefit them, but rather listen to the majority. another rule of marketing.

seen by who? those who were lucky to hit a price flux or those who ebayed their millions? wise players couldn't care less about the only fact that makes FoW armor different - higher price.

you are very mistaken if you think that having a lot of money and thus a FoW armor makes you 'elite'

they will most likely

you and the rest of the community have not heard much about what Chapter 2 hold at all. the small bits we got from CGW magazine is really nothing of great importance.
as ignis said, we will be using the materials we have now, which we cant use for anything now, such as rubies + sapphires. Many ppl are collecting/buying many of these, and the last time i checked the rare trader, rubies+sapphires were at 7k each, almost like ecto.
there are 2 possiblities, 1: they become very expensive (maybe even 15k-20k) in Chapter2, because you will need them and the drop rate is as rare as it is now
or nr2: they could become very commen and us, who ahve wasted alot on them will loose alot.
i have been collecting these, and i think i dont want to collect that many (have about 15 of each) because they could become common materials
in chapter2....
@Ignis; you have a very anti rich people attitude. I dont think you realise that when you have invested great amounts of time and effort into the game in order to accumulate the best items possible for it then to become worthless is not something many people will look forward to. Anet reward those who invest time into the game with items which MAY become worthless. It is something which is not fair and will affect the game.
You think that everyone who can afford anything of value instantly ebays or was there at the price reset which is a highly ignorant view. You fail to acknoledge those who made their wealth through more "honest" means.

I'd be Lmao is they added a rare material crafter that crafts Rubies and Sapphires XD
indeed I do. and that has nothing to do with me being 'poor' myself. I can easily farm 250k+ in a few hours. I just don't see the fun and the point in it.

I thought they wouldn't.

ANet are only ever going to reward the winners of the GWWC. ANet are NOT going to do anything for farmers. Guild Wars is primarily oriented for an everage player who doesn't farm 24/7. therefore the only branch of players here that have the chance to get lucky is the non-farming lot
Quote:

that ain't a matter of what's fair what what isn't. this is all a matter of MONEY. ANet do NOT earn any money on farmers. it's a waste of their bandwidth and server resources. normal players, on the other hand, expand their profit margin and by all means make profit for ANet,

where some see coincidence, I see consequence

those are so few these days...
yet again I have to say that all that matters in any MMO game is that the majority is satisfied. it's the majority that 'drives' the game. and the majority in our case is the straight lot that has better things to do than fill up every single slot of the characters' inventories with somethign that's worth a few hundred thousand gold.
those who were lucky to hit a price flux or those who ebayed their millions? .
Getting sick of this comment! Listen, if you are too dense to realize there are legitamate was of making stacks an stacks of ecto, then I fell sorry for you and can begin to understand your anger twoard those who know how to play the game better then you.
I have one set of fissue, 160 ecto in storage and never once have I ever ebayed, and although I was upset I missed it, did not get in on the price reset.
